Perillat and Tchepalova win Engadin Ski Marathon

Christophe Perillat of France was today's winner of the 36th Engadin Ski Marathon, beating out all of the other 11'883 participants from 34 nations. About 500 meters before the finish Perrillat was able to outdistance the pursuing athletes and reach the finish line in a time of followed by the Italians Gianantonio Zanetel, Maurizio Pozzi, Norman Kostner and Silvio Fauner.

On the women's side Natascha Leonardi Cortesi of Switzerland took the leading position from the beginning and was about 30 seconds ahead of Julija Tchepalova from Russia just over half way through the race. Tchepalova closed the gap between herself and Leonardi before Pontresina and the two women entered the last kilometer together. Tchepalova then attacked, leaving Leonardi Cortesi behind, and reached the finish line first in a time of 1:37.53. Lara Peyrot from France was third, just over 10 seconds behind.

Going into the final FIS Marathon Cup race, the Birkebeinerrennet (54 km C) next Saturday, Gianantonio Zanetel (ITA) leads the overall standing with 288 points ahead of Stanislav Rezac (CZE, 246 points), Silvio Fauner (ITA, 243 points) and Raul Olle (EST, 242 points). Among the women Cristina Paluselli (ITA) leads with 450 points over of Lara Peyrot (ITA, 425 points) and Sofia Lind (SWE, 329 points).
