The Strathcona Nordics Ski Club is seeking a qualified, experienced NCCP Level 3, full time head coach to lead, foster and coordinate the club’s athlete development program. The position will also have a regional development focus in association with PacificSport – Vancouver Island and Cross Country BC.

The Strathcona Nordics are a fast growing club with 450+ members from across Vancouver Island. The club’s activities are based at Mount Washington Alpine Resort located next to Strathcona Provincial Park in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, B.C.  Nordic facilities at Mount Washington include a 10,000 square foot Nordic lodge, 55km+ of groomed trails (1000 to 1200m elevation), new racing trails, stadium and biathlon range, summer hiking and mountain biking trails. The ski area receives 400 to 900+ cm of snow and the season runs from early December to April with good snow through to the NST snow camp in late May. Due to the mild coastal climate, the region also offers a diversity of spectacular year round, snow free amenities and training opportunities.

The Strathcona Nordics in association with Mount Washington Alpine Resort other mountain sport clubs, and local communities, are working together to establish a regional training facility at Mount Washington for cross-country, biathlon, and alpine skiing disciplines. With the approach of the 2010 Olympic games the Resort also aims to attract elite Nordic ski teams to train on low elevation snow under coastal conditions similar to those found in the Callaghan Valley.

The club has an active athlete development and racing program currently managed by NCCP qualified volunteer coaches. Programs include ski league (160+ rabbits), youth racing (40+ athletes), masters programs, and a school ski program involving six local schools (and over 300 grade 5&6 students).  As Head Coach you would have national level racing experience, exceptional interpersonal skills and skiing technique, and would be dedicated and challenged to assist the Club, in association with Pacific Sport, Cross Country BC, and Mount Washington elevate the profile of cross country skiing on Vancouver Island by establishing a solid regional program, managing and mentoring volunteer coaches, and fostering a healthy and exciting athlete development culture for athletes of all ages and both genders.

The coaching position will be full time, 12 month renewable position, commencing in April, 2004. The club will provide a competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience and the support of an active network of experienced volunteers.
