Renner 18th in Oberstdorf World Cup

Sara Renner continued her strong run of World Cup results today in the women's 2x7.5km Double Pursuit in Oberstdorf, Germany. Renner was strong from the start, sprinting her way into an 18th place tie with Kazak skier Oxana Jatskaja. Renner was leading the Canadian team today while Beckie Scott took a weekend off from the World Cup circuit to attend the Keskinada Loppet in Canada.

Russian star and new mother Julija Tchepalova took her first World Cup win since returning to competition after a one year break, winning in a time of 41 minutes and 45.2 seconds. Tchepalova outpaced a strong lead group on the final climb to win by 5.9 seconds over resurgent Norwegian Hilde Pedersen. Russian Olga Savialova took third place.

Canadian Becky Laakso, starting the first World Cup of her career, finished in 53rd position. American Wendy Wagner finished 56th.

World Cup action continues tomorrow in Oberstdorf with the men's and women's skate team sprints. Sara Renner will be teaming up with Becky Laakso in the women's race, while Canada will have two teams entered in the men's race. George Grey will be skiing with Chris Jeffries and Gordon Jewett will be skiing with Dan Roycroft.
