US Announces World Junior Team

PARK CITY, UT (Jan. 15) - Twenty-three young athletes - 17 young men and six women - have been named to compete in the nordic World Junior Championships Feb. 4-9 in Solleftea, Sweden, the U.S. Ski Team said Wednesday.

U.S. Development Coach Chris Grover said the cross country selections were finalized at the Chevy Truck U.S. Cross Country Championships in Rumford, Maine. The team will leave next week for a mini-training camp before the World Juniors.

Named to the cross country squad (with age, hometown and club program): Men: Andy Newell (19; Shaftsbury, VT; Stratton Mountain School), Leif Zimmerman (18; Bozeman, MT; Bridger Nordic Ski Foundation), Steve Scott (19; St. Paul, MN; Minnesota Biathlon); Ryan Foster (19; Weston, VT; University of Vermont), Glenn Randall (16; Collbran, CO; Grand Mesa Nordic), Brent Lowen (19; Fairbanks, AK; University of Alaska Fairbanks), and Bryan Cook (19; Rhinelander, WI; Northern Michigan U.). Women: Kristina Trygstad-Saari (18; Bozeman, MT; Bridger Nordic Ski Foundation), Lindsey Weier (18; Mahtomedi, MN; Northern Michigan U.); Alison Crocker (18; Poughkeepsie, NY; Dartmouth College), Carina Hamel (18; Southampton, MA; Burke Mountain Academy), Lindsay Williams (18; Hastings, MN; Northern Michigan U.), and Katie Ronsse (17; Anchorage, AK; Alaska Winter Stars).
