Renner and Jeffries win Alberta Cup Skate Races

Canadian Olympian Sara Renner made her season debut today in the Alberta Cup race held at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Renner easily won the open women's 10km skate race by 1 minute and 10.7 seconds over Tasha Betcherman. Junior National team skier Madeleine Williams finished third on the man-made 2.5 km course, followed by Jacqui Benson in fourth and junior girl Amanda Ammar of Edmonton Nordic in fifth.

The open men's 15km skate race was dominated by National Team skier Chris Jeffries, who finished in a time of 33:29.5, 34.9 seconds ahead of his teammate George Grey. Drew Goldsack, Gordon Jewett and Devon Kershaw, all of the National Ski team, rounded out the top 5.

Alberta Cup racing will continue tomorrow with sprints that will be used as one of the Alberta Canada Games team selection races. The Alberta team should be announced after Sunday's classic races.
