Gaiasova and Villeneuve win Sovereign Lake Canada Cup

Today was the first day of competition at the Sovereign Lake Canada Cup Races, with a 5 km classic for the women and 10 km classic for the men. The race organizers did a great job of grooming and preparing the course considering that much of the early season snowfall had melted over the past few weeks.

Dasha (Daria) Gaiazova of the National Junior Team and Phil Villeneuve of X-C.com won the women's and men's open categories respectively. Both Gaiazova and Villeneuve won by a substantial margin over the field.

The racing continues tomorrow with a 10 km freestyle for the women and a 15 km freestyle for the men. Complete results are available at http://www.eventtracker.ca/Sovereign/Nov30_classic.pdf
