|Court of Arbitration for Sport to Hear Lazutina and Danilova Cases Next Week|
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear the cases of Lazutina vs IOC, Danilova vs IOC, Lazutina vs FIS and Danilova vs FIS on November 4th, 5th and 6th in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The Russian athletes have filed an appeal with CAS against the decision made by the IOC Executive Board to disqualify them from the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and also against the decision of the International Ski Federation (FIS) to suspend them for two years.
The hearing is not public. The four procedures are handled jointly by the same Panel of arbitrators composed of Mr. Peter Leaver QC, barrister in London, England (President), Mrs. Barbara Shycoff, attorney at law in Bowie, Maryland, USA and Mr. Dirk-Reiner Martens, attorney at law in Munich, Germany.
The CAS has informed the parties that it was unlikely that the Arbitral Panel would communicate its decisions immediately after the hearing but would rather issue its final awards, together with reasons, at a later stage.
The decision of the CAS will be closely watched by Canadian skier Beckie Scott. If the suspension of the IOC and FIS are upheld by the Court of Artbitration, it is likely Scott's Olympic pursuit medal will be updgraded to either silver or gold.
