Bring the Olympics/Paralympics to Future Nordic Stars

In a few short weeks the World will be watching the events unfold on the ski trails of Soldier Hollow, the site of the Nordic Events for the Salt Lake City Olympic and Paralympic Games. Canada will be sending a team including the Nations top athletes, legitimate medal threats in particular in the Women's Pursuit, Sprint and Relay and the Paralympic Cross Country Events. For the other events, you never know, anything can happen.

This is an excellent opportunity to inspire future Canadian Olympians, that are in the Jackrabbit and Racing Programs, where Beckie Scott and company started out only a few years ago.

Here are some ideas for getting your "future Olympians" involved in the Games and to inspire the next young Canadian that will be a star on the World Nordic circuit.

Cross Country Canada has set up a Web Page with many facts and figures and interesting links for the Games: http://canada.x-c.com/hist/olympic/SLC2002.htm

Get your team together to watch one of the races and cheer on the Canadians: see the TV schedule on the CBC web site

Use some of the activities on the SLOC for Kids Web site:

Have a mini Olympics at one of your sessions (maybe with other local clubs). Have an opening ceremonies, with a parade of nations and flags, and mini versions of the Olympic Events. Different skiers can take on the names of Canadian Team members as they ski against the Rest of the worlds best for Nordic supremacy.

Have a test with a prize for those with the correct answers. Use the CCC Olympic page, athlete bios, Olympic History and Fast Facts to come up with the questions.

Send emails of support to the Olympic Team members via skifaster.net

We would like to hear your cool ideas also, so we can share them with others. Email us at
