Whyte 5th in Isny, Germany

Shauna Whyte of Hinton was fifth at the second disabled cross country race of season in Isny, Germany. Shauna was 6:44.8 behind Svitlana Tryfpnova of Ukraine, the winner of the 10 km. Shauna was 10.7 seconds behind Martina Willing of Germany. Martina skis in a sit ski, is blind and skis with a guide. Colette Bourgonje of Saskatoon was seventh 3.7 seconds behind Dorothea Agetle of Italy.

Jean-Thomas Boily of Orford was in 22th place in the 15 km race and failed to qualify for Salt Lake City. Jean-Thomas has until Feb. 3 to obtain his second qualifying race.

Colette and Jean-Thomas, who were in their new sleds built for the Salt Lake City courses, struggled with the icy lighting fast tracks.

The team is now in Switzerland at a high altitude training camp preparing for the first World Cup in Mouthe France Jan. 21 to 28. The skiers are preparing for the Paralympics at Salt Lake City March 7-16.
