Tchepalova, Mai win World Cup in Nove Mesto

Russia1s Julia Tschepalova, skate specialist and Olympic champion from 1998, won Saturday1s women1s 5k cross-country skate in Nove Mesto, recording her second win of the season.

The Chech Republic1s Katarina Neumannova was second and Belmondo 3rd. Neumannova takes over the overall lead in the world cup ahead of Skari and Tschepalova in a tie for second. Next are Danilova, Smigun and Belmondo.

Italy1s Fabio Mai won the men1s 10k cross-country skate in Nove Mesto on Saturday. He thus added the third world cup victory for the Italian men this season as Zorzi has won 2 sprint events.

Estonian sensation Mae, traditionally a classic skier, finally made it to the podium and was second while Norway1s Kristen Skjeldal was 3rd.

Young Norwegian skier Ruud Hofstad was 4th and Johann Muehlegg 5th. Sprint leader Zorzi was 10th. Christian Hoffmann, twice on the podium earlier in the season, only managed 18th, Bjervig was 22nd.

Tor Arne Hetland, looking to qualify for the 30k opening distance as well as prove himself for the Norwegien relay team, only managed 23rd. Per Elofsson, the overall world cup leader, did not ski.

This was the last individual world cup race ahead of the Olympics, there is a sprint relay today.
