Whyte Wins Europa Cup Bronze

Shauna Whyte of Hinton, Alberta captured the bronze medal at the Europa Cup 5km race in Isny im Allgäu Germany. Shauna was 1:37.8 behind the leader Svitlana Tryfonova of Ukraine. Colette Bourgonje of Saskatoon was fourth 3.7 seconds behind Shauna.

Jean-Thomas Boily of Orford, Quebec was in 15th place in the 10km race and failed to qualify for Salt Lake City. Jean-Thomas has until Feb. 3 to obtain his second qualifying race. The next race is Saturday.

Only Shauna Whyte will compete in the biathlon tomorrow. The next race for cross country is Sunday with the long distance events.

Disabled Europa Cup races before Christmas were cancelled due to the lack of snow in Italy. Snow conditions in Isny Germany are good.

Brian McKeever of Calgary, who is already qualified for Salt Lake City, will be joining the team on Sunday but will not race until the first World Cup in Mouthe France Jan. 21 to 28.
