NorAm Resumes in Duntroon

The NorAm series resumed today following the Christmas break.  Along with amassing the usual series points, this race stop gives athletes the added incentive of possibly qualifying for the Canadian World Cup races, as well as trials for Junior and U23 Worlds.

Following delays due to cold weather and grooming machine troubles, the women's 10km pursuit race got underway with nearly all of the fastest women in attendance – Sara Renner, Chandra Crawford, Madeleine Williams, etc…

Williams and Renner would separate themselves from the group at the mid-point of the classic portion of the race and would continue together until the finish, with Renner taking the victory in 34:25.9, Tasha Betcherman followed in 3rd (+1:05.0), Brooke Gosling in 4th (+1:34.6 ) and Chandra Crawford in 5th (+1:51.9).

The Men’s race would break up early into the first lap of their 20km pursuit, with the majority of this lead pack fighting for the win until the very finish.  National Team skier, George Grey, was the eventual winner in 59:05.7. Grey, who had a less than hoped for start to the World Cup season, seems to now be rounding into his usual strong second half form.  The rest of the top-5 included, Drew Goldsack (+1.2), Gordon Jewett (+2.4), Robin McKeever (+5.9) and Chris Jeffries (+7.7).

In the competition for Junior and U23 positions, Marlis Kromm and Frederic Touchette were the top Juniors on the day, while Chris Butler and Amanda Ammar were the quickest U23 racers.

NorAm racing continues Saturday with a skate sprint competition.
