Photos and Results from the NorAm Sprint in Canmore

The NorAm skate sprint held today at the Canmore Nordic Centre provided another opportunity for racers to test themselves on trails that will be used during the up-coming Canadian World Cup stop.  Saturday's sprint also unveiled a new sprint course that will be used for the race of the same format during the World Cup week.

While cool conditions greeted the competitors early this morning, racing was able to go ahead without delay.  The qualifying rounds were won by NST skier Perianne Jones (Nakkertok) and junior sensation Alex Harvey (Mont Ste-Anne).

While Jones was able to qualify by a sizeable margin, she was unable to hold off NWT racer Sarah Daitch (Fort Smith) over the final 100m in the women's final.  With Daitch and Jones finishing 1st and 2nd respectively, the podium was rounded out by Indi 2010 racer Rhonda Jewett (Foothills Nordic).

Harvey would show that he was the strongest in both the qualifier and through the rounds.  In the men's final, Harvey would bide his time before mounting a dominating sprint over the last 200m, coasting over the line for the win.  NST skier Phil Widmer (Canmore Nordic) ended up 2nd with the rest of the men's final lunging for the line.  3rd place would eventually be called a tie between two Foothills Nordic racers, Chris Jeffries and Brent McMurtry.

Racing continues tomorrow in Canmore with 5/10km individual start classic races.
