Whitten 10th in Bejing World Cup

Tara Whitten of Edmonton improved on her recent world cup track cycling debut with a 10th place finish in the World Cup Pursuit in Bejing today.  Improving her time by 1 sec, Tara is now within 1 second of the Canadian record set by Clara Hughes in 2002.  With only the top 12 ranked pursuit racers in the world allowed to qualify for the Bejing Olympics, Tara is inching up the world ranking and still perhaps has a chance of meeting that mark if allowed to continue on to the 2 final World Cups of the season and perhaps World Championships.
For those that havn't been following this incredible story, Tara Whitten, a former national team skier and silver medalist at the 2003 U23 World Ski Championships is enjoying a meteoric rise through the international track cycling world in only her first year on the circuit.  Having only recently tried her hand at track cycling, she surprised the Canadian field with a haul of medals at the national championships and was selected to join the world cup where she is shocking both her compeditors and coaches with breakthrough results.  Stay tuned as the story continues to unfold.
