Members of Canada's National Team will step to the start line this weekend in northern Finland. With a recent European departure to prepare for the continuation of the 2007-2008 World Cup campaign in late November, the Canadians will race both this weekend and next in FIS events that have traditionally held starting fields with near World Cup quality.
This weekend in Saariselka involves short distance freestyle races as well as a classic sprint. The following weekend in Muonio allows for three race opportunities, once again a classic sprint, followed by short distance classic and freestyle races.
Last year Devon Kershaw finished 2nd in the Saariselka distance event before finishing 15th in a World Cup six days later. Kershaw has shown strong running fitness all summer, including recently smashing the Zylberberg Invitational course record. Drew Goldsack will also be racing this coming weekend, with George Grey joining Kershaw and Goldsack for the Muonio race stop.
