Suggestions For Ski Duathlon

Paal Gunnar Mikkelsplass, Norway's cross country head coach, says Norway has made some suggestions to the ski duathlon concept that will be tried out in the 2001/2002 season in continental cup races and likely in Falun.

The concept involves the pursuit being ran only with equipment changes. Problems may arise as to different boots and bindings, one solution says Mikkelsplass is that each racer must spend a minimum time in the pit (for exmaple 90 seconds).

Mikkelsplass also says that running the event this way may be a good thing, in essence making it one event instead of 2. Most pursuit races will be held with 2 to 4 hours rest in between.

Bjorn Deahlie won the pursuit in 1992 and 1994, Thomas Alsgaard in 1998 and 1999, Per Elofsson in 2001.
